  the edges than the f-18 but really there's not a huge difference as far as overall sharpness goes between both these lenses when shooting wide open all right so now I've pulled up both these pictures shot at f-18 the picture to the left again is the STM lens in the picture to the right which shot with the USM f-14 lens so let's just start off by zooming in to the center to check for sharpness and here we can see that the f-14 when stopped down to f1 a definitely is a little bit sharper than the [...] f-18 when shooting wide open but if you go out and buy the f-14 and stop it down to f1a it's going to be a lot sharper than the f-18 lens and this leads me to my conclusion if you are a beginner or an intermediate photography I would definitely just stick with the f-18 STM lens it's going to b
